Most people get eligibility by working enough hours to meet “initial eligibility”. Some gain eligibility through “Day-One”. To GET your benefits you must:

  1. Initial Eligibility - Work 360 hours in a 3-month work period.  You then wait one month (called the lag month), and benefits begin on the first day of the following month (see table and example below);
  2. Day-One Eligibility - Work at a new property of a contributing employer during the first 30 days of property's opening, if the property agrees to be “Day One”.

Example of Initial Eligibility:  You begin working on Feb. 10.  You work a total of 430 hours during the Feb-Mar-April work period. You become eligible for benefits June 1 (see table).
